Electric Bus the Future of Public Transportation in India?
Air pollution is as grave an issue as ever in India, and the national government is doing everything it can to reduce it as much as possible. One of the steps being undertaken is the implementation of stringent anti-emission laws, which cover the entire ambit of vehicles, including buses. Apart from imposing regulations, the government is also encouraging the production and adoption of e-buses by offering subsidies and incentives and introducing tax cuts.
For instance, under the Green Mobility Scheme, Government of India seeks to acquire 20,000 paratransit and 6,000 regular buses that run on alternative fuels, such as electricity, in 103 cities! Further, the government has invested $1,460 million (INR 10,000 crore) to bring 1,500,000 electric vehicles on Indian roads between April 2019 and March 2022. Therefore, such supportive schemes are predicted to drive the domain for electric buses in the nation during the forecast period.
