Growing Environmental Concerns Driving the China Electric Scooters and Motorcycles Sector
Rising environmental concerns are accelerating the sales of electric scooters and motorcycles in China. People are concerned toward the increasing pollution levels and are thus adopting eco-friendly two-wheelers over conventional ones. Stringent government regulations have played an important role in the reduction of lead-acid battery production, as such batteries pollute the environment. In 2012, around 1,000 lead-acid battery manufacturers existed, which reduced to less than 200 in 2016.
In China, electric two-wheelers have been mostly used for short trips, such as dropping and picking up children from schools or going to work. However, these vehicles are now being increasingly adopted by the service domain for delivery purposes.
